The match
Singles, 3-6, 2-6. My second USTA match of the season and my first in singles, at the Charleston Tennis Center on the 3.5 flight. I lost to a much stronger player, and I was happy to keep it close and make it a fun match.
He came in with eight wins from nine courts on record this year, singles and doubles. He hit with a lot of topspin, and he could put power and pace on the ball from anywhere on the court. I was under pressure for the whole match.
It was good preparation. The next night, in the league playoffs, I played another topspin player who was a step easier to handle, and I knew how to deal with that ball.
